DIYs to increase your home's curb appeal
Spring is on the way, and with that comes the prime home selling and buying season! If you are planning to sell your home this year, now is the time to start upgrading your home to attract buyers and get the most from the sale.
One of the biggest ways to attract potential buyers is to increase the curb appeal of your home. This week, we have eight DIY projects to help you upgrade your home for as little as possible.
1. Replace your old hardware. Replace your house numbers, mailbox, lighting fixtures, and doorknobs with a matching or complimentary to give an instant facelift to the front of your house. These little details typically go unnoticed by us after we live somewhere for a while but will catch the eye of any potential buyer.
2. Repaint your front door. You don’t need to replace your entire front door to add beauty to your house. Sometimes, sanding and repainting your door is enough to bring it back to its former glory. Go clean and modern with a coat of black or white paint or embrace the eclectic charm of your house and go for a fun, bright color.
3. Spruce up your garden. Once the weather warms up, turn your attention to your garden beds. Trimming the hedges and adding in some border flowers can be enough to liven up the front yard.
4. Replace your gutters and downspouts. Are your gutters cracked and chipped? This project is a little bigger, but sometimes it can be worth it to completely replace your gutters than to just clean them. These little details may seem unnecessary, but they are things new home buyers are looking at.
5. Pressure wash your driveway and sidewalk. Get that old layer of grime off of the pavement and get that concrete sparkling clean. A simple pressure wash can make your house look that much better.
6. While you’re at it, clean the roof, too. Sometimes it may be worth it to completely replace the roof before selling. But if you’ve only recently replaced the roof and it’s still got a good few years left, washing it may be enough to show buyers the charm of your house.
7. Install window boxes. What house doesn’t instantly look nicer with window boxes? Window boxes overflowing with flowers will have anyone dreaming of their future life at that house. Take a weekend to install window boxes at the front of your house and plant some seasonal flowers.
8. Paint the fence. Wooden fences tend to look weathered pretty quickly. Sometimes, it may be time to replace the fence. But if your fence is in good condition and is simply looking a little worn, a new coat of paint will do the trick. Just make sure to use the proper paint and sealant so it doesn’t start chipping after the first spring shower.
