Two Students Win the Guy C. Comes Memorial Scholarship
This year we had not one, but two Guy C. Comes Memorial Scholarship winners! We had so many amazing applicants and it was so hard to choose from all of the accomplished students that applied this year.
This year, we have extended the scholarship to Mount Carmel senior, Caroline Sauter and Holy Cross senior, Shane Gross.
During Caroline’s time at Mount Carmel, she was a member of both the Jesuit High School Jayette Dance Team and the Metropolitan Dance Theatre of New Orleans. She also won the Bronze Presidential Service Award two years in a row for her volunteer work at the Audubon Zoological Gardens, “I started in my eighth-grade year volunteering at the Audubon Zoological Gardens. I began by working behind the scenes and eventually began presenting the animals to groups.” Caroline will be going to Texas A&M University to work towards her degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering.
During Shane’s time at Holy Cross, he grew a strong love for the sciences. He received the Bronze Medallion (a high honor at Holy Cross) for his work in many classes and placed second in Biology II at the District Rally. He also spent his time volunteering at the Covenant House, “Being able to volunteer there gave me a new perspective. I enjoyed making the residents happy and realized that it is important to do all that I can to help people.” Shane will be attending the University of New Orleans to work towards his degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering.
Congratulations Caroline and Shane! We wish you success in your college career!
