Celebrating the holidays by helping our community

One of the most fulfilling ways to spend the holiday season is by helping others. This month, we had the privilege of volunteering for Destrehan Plantation’s Candy Cane Celebration and hosting a holiday drive for the residents of Covenant House.

Candy Cane Celebration

On Sunday, December 8th, some members of the POECU team headed down to Destrehan Plantation to help out with their Candy Cane Celebration. While there, we helped to bring some Christmas joy to the children and their families by assisting with Christmas-themed games and crafts.

The River Road Historical Society aims to preserve history and provide education on Destrehan Plantation. All of the proceeds from the celebration went to the restoration of Destrehan Plantation

Covenant House Holiday Drive

Throughout the months of November and December, we hosted a gift drive for Covenant House. Covenant House is an organization dedicated to providing shelter and resources for homeless, runaway, and trafficked teenagers and young adults.

Our members and team donated some amazing items to the gift drive, and on December 12th, POECU team member Rachel was able to bring an entire carload of gifts to Covenant House. While there, she met Jim Kelly, the founder of the New Orleans branch of Covenant House who explained that donations like these help to make the holiday season brighter for the residents.

Thank you to everyone who donated to the gift drive your contribution will help bring joy to some deserving teens.
